Cod Damn It.

I picked up the Cape Cod Times this morning and what did I see? Terrible freaking news about scientific research on cod stocks in Stellwagen Bank. In 2008 apparently there was a massive explosion of baby codfish in the area and fishing rules were adjusted accordingly. Now scientists are saying that this huge litter of cod gave us false hope that cod stocks were healthy and now (again) because of this, our beloved cods are being overfished. I am always skeptical when it comes to scientific data and the fishing industry. How can they come to two completely separate conclusions regarding cod stocks from the same scientific data they gathered in 2008? Science research of course is funded mainly by environmental groups and as we all know MONEY TALKS. Trawlgate  the scandal of 2000 is another perfect example of scientists fucking shit up for the fishermen because of miscalculated research methods.

Ask a seafood purveyor at Hunts Point in the Bronx, NY and they will tell you that there is nothing wrong with the biomass index of the cod species. Ask a cod fisherman who lands 113,000 lbs of cod per year and he will tell you there are plenty of fish in the sea. Enviro's point their fingers at fishermen saying that they are fishing the oceans clean. Fishermen don't want the cod to become extinct, that is their livelihood!

New stricter regulations on cod fishing is really going to razzle already economically marginalized Mass fishermen. Not allowing them to catch cod could put 90 percent of the codfishing fleet completely out of business. Codfish swim with other species that are caught commercially further complicating matters. Read more about the dilemma in this article from the NY Times. The fishermen might make it to the endangered species list if things keep going the way they are now...

Cod Cheeks are Hot.

What's up Sweet Cheeks? You want to make your patrons go ooooooh and ahhhh? You must create an air of bewilderment and fantasy in your establishment. Keep your people perched on the edge of their seats like large prehistoric birds, and serve a dish that will blow their minds.
Cheeks are what dreams are made of. More specifically, our cheeks are cut from the monkfish and the codfish. Both varieties are undeniably succulent, as well as undeniably smart menu choices. You will save money by selling cheeks because they are cheaper than fillets and they yield 100% of usable meat. Also, you will gain respect within your community for going beyond your calling by using MORE than just the boring and regular parts of the fish.
If you grew up in Newfoundland you would probably take pleasure in frying female cod gonads, otherwise known as "britches" for their pronged shape. If you lived in Iceland you might enjoy some milt, or cod sperm served in whey. Whoa, Oh NO.  On a visit to Scotland you might be propositioned with a "Crappin-Muggie", a local name for cod stomach stuffed with Cod liver and then boiled. HA. Perhaps a festive cod-skin leather jacket would tickle your pickle? Sounds fancy.
There is nothing more 'Merican than a cod and there is nowhere in the world like 'Merica, so dig down deep, find your inner patriot and celebrate!

Dude, I feel wicked WEE-AHHD.

The Majestic Black Cod of Alaska

No other fish says "Baller" like the Alaskan Black Cod. It is in season from April to November and we are holding down a slew of it down at the yard. Get some for yourself before it all gets sent to Japan. They just can't seem to get enough of it on that little island, which makes this fish a HOT commodity in the world market. Although the price is going to make you feel a little woozy at first, at least you know you are getting a high yield: These pups come to you headed and gutted.

If money grew on trees I would ravage the trees and buy a motherload of sablefish.
