Farmin' on Cape

This weekend I visited Tim the Farmer at Cape Cod Organic Farm. It was colder than a brass bra in the arctic that day, but somehow bright rainbow chard and sweet potatoes were still being harvested from the dirt. Tim showed me his beloved Eastham turnips which, he said are renouned for being the most delicious turnips in all of the universe. My mother Sabrina cooked some of them and they were indeed very potent.

The 600 resident organic chicken farm was a pretty happening area of the farm. Tim uses double the USDA approved amount of space to enclose his hens.

The latest project to hit the farm is the raising and breeding of organic Berkshires and rare Large Black Hogs. Tim is on a mission to bring Large Black Hog populations back to healthy levels.

The piglets were very wiggly and they got right down to business untying my shoes and trying to pull my clothes off. Tim says that pigs are very smart animals.

Large Black Hog Piglets and Hog Mother aka Marauding Milk Machine.

Tim does his best to create a stress free environment for his animals. Animals need love and affection so we talked nice to the pigs and scratched their hairy stinky bellies until they laid down happy in the mud. Awwwwwwww.
